5 Take Aways From Brentford v Arsenal

Arsenal got off to the worst possible start, losing to newly-promoted side Brentford with goals from winger Sergi Canos beating Bernd Leno with little effort and defensive errors leading to Christian Nørgaard heading it into an open net.

Here are five things we learned from the opener defeat which will hopefully be correct, allowing the season to right the ship, so to speak:

The Defensive Highline Must Be Improved...Or Scrapped

A key problem that nearly anyone can identify when watching Arsenal play last night was that the defensive method where Mari and White were allowed to play out of position to set an offside trap or win the ball back early to forestall a counter-attack clearly was a mistake. Other clubs have had success with this, but Pablo Mari lacks the pace to trace back quick enough and Ben White was thrown in at the deep end in learning a new system that even the team have not practiced thoroughly yet. Trying new tactics, with a new defence, during the season is not wise. This kind of change can only succeed when it has become subconscious in it's employment..not when initiated agains Premier League opponents

Don't Give Up On The Young Ones

Yes, Folarin Balogun didn't put the ball in the net during his Premier League debut. But yes, he was thrown in at the deep end when strangely Aubameyang and Lacazette both were 'ill', whether or not they're ill or have done something due to misconduct, or whatever their scenario it had a massive effect on team plans. Gabriel Martinelli was thrown into Premier League football immediately after returning home from Tokyo with a medallion within the Olympics with Brazil, despite securing little game time last season. The result, as you might expect, was poor, but with a starting XI with a tender age of 24, we can't blame the younger members of the squad..they'll need time to adapt. But it is the Premier League, one all told the world’s most coveted leagues and they need to adapt fast in an unforgiving league. However, equally so, patience needs to be shown to clearly talented players.

Throwing Ben White In At The Deep End Is Not Wise

The £50m man had a start to forget. Making White the focus, when he was in his first game, was harshl. Confidence takes time, and Ben was given none of it. Ben White had a target to line and didn’t prove it yesterday against the Bees. The pundits have got their knives out, which is a shame. Things will likely improve when Gabriel returns, but it’s understandable that Mari started given that Pablo did marginally play better than the other CBs in contention for a spot. Now, clearly, we need the return of Gabriel Magalhāes from his knee injury.

An Urgent Need For Another Striker and Midfielder

Emile Smith-Rowe was, by all accounts, and viewpoints, one of three effective Arsenal players. But playing on the left and no.10 at the identical time can only be done by a number of the world’s most elite players, and it wasn't as effective as planned against the Bees. Emile must be given opportunity to roam in from the left, which means that Odegaard or Aouar must also add to the attacking midfield setup. Rumours of Houssem Aouar on a loan house an obligation to buy for, the return of Martin Ødegaard permanently for around £34m, given that Maddison has been written off. are a transfer that must be done before August 31, otherwise last season's errors, and lack of threat, will continue. With Aubameyang and Lacazette being linked with Barca, and proving ineffective anyway, a new striker must be secured for goals to flow. An attacking midfielder and a striker are needed to style of reformat the team within the correct direction.

Pull The Trigger!

The final point is so important. although the number of crosses from Calum Chambers and Kieran Tierney reached the attackers, they seemed to hesitate to pull the trigger. No one is going to wait for you, these are Premier League Defenders after all. It is therefore, important to overcome the nerves, and shoot! Even loose cannon Granit Xhaka who is a senior member of the squad..with a thunderous left foot, needs to lead by example. If we are to induce some goals, believe in yourself, take aim..and shoot!

With two tough games ahead, these 5 points won't likely right the ship straight away. However, if Arsenal are to have any chance of Champions League Football, they need to be addressed urgently.
